Are we really "Proverbs 31" women?

Lately I have been thinking a lot about what kind of wife and mom I am. Not who I THINK I am in my head, but the cold hard facts of how I respond to situations, the words I choose to use, and my diligence to do MY part to the fullest.

Everything tells us to BE A PROVERBS 31 WOMAN! Be the kind of woman the devil himself fears and fears her prayers cause he knows they can move mountains etc. And we should strive to be this woman. Having a godly quote as a screensaver doesn't make you a proverbs 31 woman. Wearing Christian t-shirts or listening to Christian music doesn't make you this kind of woman either. Raising your kids to be kind and telling them how to be humble doesn't make you a proverbs 31 woman either. Those are good things, but it's in YOUR actions that determine what kind of woman YOU are!

The Wife of Noble Character

10 A wife of noble character who can find?
    She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
    and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
    for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
    she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
    where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
    and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
    she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
    and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
    but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
    and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

If you didn't read all of that go back and read it again. THIS is scripture. This is God's word. THIS is how we are to conduct ourselves as women.

She brings her husband good and not harm and he has full confidence in her. Do you act in a way that your husband has confidence in you? She works eagerly with her hands. Are you working eagerly?? This doesn't mean a 9-5 job...this means working for her families good. She prepares food for her family. She takes the time to value her job to provide food for her family. The verses say she rises when it is still night and portions things out. Is this a habit we exhibit or do we stress over what we will eat at the last minute and put no thought and preparation into it. She buys a field and plants a vineyard. Meaning she is smart with her money and makes wise investments. For me that means I make the money go as far as I can and determine what our needs are and what our wants are and put the needs first. That means for me to take every opportunity to save and allow there to be funds for blessing others. She opens her arms to the poor and the needy. How many times this week have you poured out blessings on the needy? She speaks with wisdom! How many times have you spoke with true WISDOM this week? Chances are that more gossip than wisdom has came from your mouth today..us women are so quick to speak out of places that aren't wisdom..we need to purpose in our hearts to let our speech be a reflection of our hearts..faithful instruction is on her tongue...she watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness! Her children arise and call her blessed and her husband does also!

She sounds amazing. Like nowhere near the "hotmess" mom I am. These scriptures have been so convicting to me. I say I want to be a Proverbs 31 woman, but am I setting about to my work vigorously? Or am I complaining about every little thing that is my responsibility.. Am I clothed with strength and dignity? Am I speaking with Godly wisdom? Am I preparing food for my family and making wise investments. This is so convicting for me because I think about all the times I have been so frivolous in spending money on food that I DIDN'T PREPARE! I love to cook and love to sit down at our table for a meals, but I grow weary in this at times. This encourages me to keep being money smart in the grocery store. I need to make wiser decisions in what I am buying look at is as an investment and how am I going to get my greatest return. Plan out my meals and stop letting laziness creep in.

I will no longer make jokes about being a "hotmess". I'm going to take my role seriously and apply myself against this standard God set for a woman of noble character! I want to be her so badly. I want my speech and my actions to be worth far more than rubies! So let's be this woman! I don't know if it's JUST ME who has been fooling themselves into thinking I am noble and wise, but from now on I am striving everyday to be just that! Who's with me?
